FAQ
UTM questions
Quick answers about using our free UTM Link Builder.
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL that tell Google Analytics where a visitor came from, such as the source, medium and campaign name.
utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign are the core parameters you should always use. utm_term, utm_content and utm_id are optional for keyword, creative and campaign ID tracking.
Yes. Google Analytics treats 'Facebook' and 'facebook' as different sources. Keeping everything lowercase with hyphens or underscores avoids split reports.
Avoid it. UTM tags on internal links overwrite the original traffic source and break attribution. Use them only on links from external channels.
Go to Reports, then Acquisition, then Traffic acquisition, and change the dimension to Session source / medium or Session campaign.
